Hi everyone, as suggested, I contacted the Zoo and they said it is business as usual there but BRUTAL getting to the building from their parking lot. Steven Pro is already enjoying our tropical climate in Ohio so we will be going forward with our meeting as planned.
PLEASE use caution when getting ready for the meeting and bundle up like the little Randy in "A Christmas Story" so you "can't put your arms down"

The wind chill is expected to be around -30 degrees. Exposed skin is at risk for frostbite. I hope we have a great turnout for this event but I don't want anyone to be hurt over the love of the hobby.

So crank up your heaters, put on your best parka, mittens, scarf and earmuffs and don't worry about the fashion police tonight.

We also have something new to try in addition to our normal raffle that you guys should all enjoy! Bring your cash or you will be disappointed! Tickets are still $1 each or $5 for 6.

See you all at 7:30!

If this is my first time to the meeting, and I pay for the dues. Am I able to participate in the member raffles? I plan on cleaning house ;).

That seems to be the way it goes. Yes, if you join tonight, you do get to participate in the members raffle.

There seems to be a tradition that the new members are charmed and somehow walk away with those member door prizes more often than statistics could account for. It's probably good that you are getting in on that winning streak while it still appears to be hot! About the only hot thing about today.

Couldn't make it tonight =( Someone will have to post what the "Doing something new" thing was... =)

Yes I would like to point out what was different since it might not have been obvious to some members.
We usually had a $50 gift card from Salty Critter for the members raffle and 8 items for the regular raffle. Tonight we had the 8 items plus a $50 gift card in the regular raffle. Then we doubled the usual members raffle to TWO $50 gift cards. So tonight we gave away $100 extra worth of gift cards over regular nights.

There were a decent amount of tickets in there for the gift card. Does everyone like the idea of picking out your own livestock or would you rather drop the gift card idea and just have the live critters there?
I thought it would be great to be able to pick out your favorite fish or the one you think looks coolest instead of having to take what was already in the bag in the raffle. There are certain fish I would like to have and if I got $50 toward them it would make it a much more realistic goal instead of coming up with all the cash. You can also choose to use the opportunity to purchase a coral, clam or anemone of your liking with the card.

What are your opinions of the livestock gift card?

I think the livestock raffle is a nice touch but so is the gift card. Sometimes someone might go up to the table and see something they REALLY like and load up on tickets. Other times they might walk away, but with the giftcard and livestock it gives everyone a chance to put in for something.
