Meetings -- an update

Hi everyone,

I don't recall if anyone had said that they could host the meeting in September or not, but I think that I may be able to if anyone is inclined to come to Perry County for a meeting. If you guys really want to meet before September (and no body else can host,) I may be able to do something the first week of August. Let me know what you guys are up to.

I will likely order some animals from Tom's Caribbean, so if anyone is interested in getting some animals from him and attending the meeting, we could have them shipped together and I could have them ready for you to take home at the meeting. We could do the same thing with Reef Cleaners, if anyone is interested. Again, let me know what you all think.

Well, September is cool with me. :)

With Tom's Caribbean, if you see that he collects an animal that you would like, he can usually get it for you if you give him a heads up that you want it; thus, you don't have to go by the items in stock to create your order -- if you place your order early enough.
So doing the in Sept. means the greatest variety of animals will be available for us to order.

Let me know if anyone has a day or date that will or will not work for them. We are close to Little Buffalo State Park, and we have a stream w/ critters and some paths you can walk on within our 10 acres at the house. And we can do the whole food thing, as well.
 
Very little interest then? That is cool; just wanted to put it out there since I finally have a place that is a bit more meeting compatible. No one interested in ordering animals, then, either? If you all are not interested in meeting I can order the animals any time.

I'd really like to attend a meeting, but my life has been total chaos since the beginning of the 2010. I just started my third new job since January (quit the other two) last week. I believe I'll have my schedule in a week or two, but I'm almost sure I'll not have any weekends off (tech support at Comcast). After 32 years working for the same employer, being lower than whale sh*t really sucks! That said, I'll try my best to attend any future meetings if I can.......:wave:

No problem, Joe. I can understand that. Hope that this job is better than the other two you quit, at least in some ways. Thanks for the update.
 
Wow Joe..I can feel your pain. i just calculated I am making approx. 22K less than I was in 2000. The hills eventually have to have a bottom and start back up...umm I hope..

Sorry to hear you're in the same boat, but as you well know we're not the only people going through this. The lucky thing for me is that I'm totally debt-free. I'm sure glad this crap didn't happen when I had a young family and all the bills that went along with that!!!!! Anyway, best of luck to you.

Earlier today there were funeral services for our friend Tim, who was a member of our DockDogs club. He was only 46 years old. Getting over the shock of his death this past week, I have had the opportunity to communicate with friends, some of whom I haven't seen for some time. Tim's sudden death brought to the fore how silly it is not to enjoy what you can out of life, as it often ends too soon.

So, I just want to extend the invitation out to all Club members again -- if any of you would like to meet in September, I would be happy to provide the place for that meeting, as well as food and beverages. The "meeting" would just be a few hours to talk with others with whom you share a mutual interest. However, I understand that everyone is very busy, and there will be no hard feelings should we be unable or uninterested in coming together as a group at this time.

I have not, and the tanks could definitely use a few. The tank moves have been hard on everything. I will be needing to order from Tom's, reefcleaners, and probably live aquaria within the next two months.
 
Hi Emily!!! I talked with you once or twice on the phone last year & I also would love to come to a meeting to see what its all about....I also live in Perry Co (in Shermansdale) & where you live would be very convenient for me.
Ps....I was hoping you would buy Treasures from the Sea & keep it running....Lancaster is so far away to go for livestock & you have to place such large orders to make shipping from online venders worthwile, plus I just like looking at the livestock in person before I buy....
Hopefully you will get more response for the next meeting....

WOW!!! Can't believe someone else from lil ol S-Dale!!!! I should have gotten on this forum long ago when the first posts were about TOTS!!!! I sure wish someone would have kept that place open....Does anyone know of any other fairly ""local" LFS??? (besides the 2 I do know about on Derry St & Rt 22 where the drive in used to be???
Plus any thoughts on another meeting???

Give us you thoughts on those two stores. The other one is gettankedaquariums.com He used to be and I think still is in the "Miracle Mile", Carlisle in a converted garage.
It has been close to 10 years since I have been in his store. I find him very opinionated on how one should maintain a reef tank. I still have a meat coral I bought from him years ago.
 
last time I was in gettanked was about 5 years ago...Nothing was for sale because he was deep into mangrove growing for nitrate export. He hardly had anything in the store. You are right that he definately has strong opinions about set up & maintenance!!!
The store out by where the old Hbg Drive in was has limited saltwater livestock....Mostly typical fish, few inverts or cleaners & almost no corals...
The one on Derry St almost to Nyes Rd has a little bigger area for saltwater but they also sell brackish & so many other types of pets that there is little room left for reef tanks...Not as neat & clean as Rt 22....Sure wish someone ese that specializes in saltwater would be nearby.
I did pass by TOTS the other day & the sign is still there even though they are closed so I'm still hoping someone will take it over.....Any takers???
