melanorus wrasse

LFS has some of these. My tank has a few hammer corals and a BTA. Is this a safe fish ? Are they hardy and peaceful ?

It's reef safe, hardy great coloration eats like a pig an excellent choice for any reef in my opinion. It's peaceful mine shares a 120 gallon with my coris wrasse they act like best friends. They might pick at the cuc not too sure I barely notice when hermits go missing I've seen my coris carry a shell of a hermit like a dog would with a stick. One of my favorite fish by far go for it and good luck

They are a very colorful and hardy fish. They can get "cranky" toward other wrasses added later, but in most cases it is not too bad. There are many reports of them going after cuc as they get older, but this has never been an issue for me.

It really depends on the fish although neither of mine bothered corals. One was a lovely fish that I was sorry to see pass many years later. He did not really eat the cleanup crew, did not bother the shrimp, and was peaceful with other fish.

The second one was a terror. He killed almost all of the cleanup crew (given more time he would have gotten it all) and attacked my barred hamlet which shortly thereafter resulted in my hamlets death. I did not have a shrimp in the tank at the time, but I am sure he would have killed it. That fish went to the LFS with full disclosure...

A gorgeous, active fish that I would like to have again, but I am kind of wary now.

I got a Medium Female from my LFS and i love this fish. It was my 3-4th fish i added. It seems to get along with other wrasses as well. I have 2 leopard wrasses with her.

It's hit or miss with the CUC. A friend of mine brought one from the same LFS that I did from the same vendor and same shipment.

His began attacking and killing his CUC immediately. Mine has never touched any of my CUC.

It was the last wrasse I added, and dominates my other wrasses (especially my potters). The weird thing is that while in QT with my Yellow Fin Fairy Wrasse, the fairy wrasse absolutely ruled the melanurus wrasse before it decided to go carpet surfing...

Awesome fish. I loved mine, maybe my favorite. Always cruising around. Two things - mine ate like 8 peppermint shrimp. Also, he would occasionally go crazy on the glass, whipping his tail at his reflection and getting sand everywhere. But I love this fish!

I was going to add one to my new tank, but a friend sold me his established mystery wrasse instead.

Get a melanarus. Won't hurt corals. Mine never touched snails, only shrimp. Mine played nice with a red head solon fairy wrasse and an orangeback fairy.

I like this fish too but am thinking they need more space than my 110g (5 foot tank) can offer. I like wrasses but was thinking maybe a smaller fairy wrasse of some sort would be better.

I currently have a peaceful reef with a yellow tang, osc clown pair, and 3 chromis. Was thinking about getting a flame angel and/or a wrasse to top things off.
