So I noticed a small bite like mark on one or my anthias and the only thing I have in my tank that I think would do this is my Melanurus? Are they known for this? The only things I have ever seen him do is eat some snails.

Here's what I have.

4 inch Melanurus wrasse
Blond nano
Fox face
Regal tang
Sailfin tang
Coral beauty
Lawnmower Blenny
5 green chomis
3 cleaner shrimp
2 Anthias

where is the bite mark? is it just 1 or are there more? Melanurus are bad news for inverts but pretty safe toward other fish. I would think bristle worms when the fish is sleeping or fighting amongst Anthias

The blenny and the coral beauty are also capable of biting. Where is the bite mark on the fish? The fins or the body? Do you have any crabs in the tank? they may take advantage of a sleeping fish. Are you sure its a bite mark? Some bacterial infections on may look like a bite.

It looks like a bite mark. it is on the body and there was blood like trim around it. Man, didnt really thing a blenny or coral beauty would do it.

i will try to get a pic and post it later .

I do have small crabs throughout the tank as well.

  Read the title of this thread as 'Melenurus Wrasse is Bitter' and thought, well don't eat one then! I've had many and they can get a bit aggressive.

That's what I might have thought made it seem like a bite mark, but actually leads me to believe it is a bacterial infection.

Here is an example.

If it were aggression missing scales and torn fins would likely be seen first.

If it is bacterial, try to remove the fish as soon as possible as it is contagious through physical contact.

Mine looks more like there is an indentiion in him and is a perfect little circle. I will post a pic in a few. I am thinking he may have bit him out of curiosity. I

thought mine was pretty peaceful until the morning I saw him proudly swimming about, sporting the 4 inch antennae of one of my cleaner shrimp from his full mouth. Bad wrasse!
