Here's the tank picture I promised.

Using my PAR meter (here's a shot of it when I was taking measurments in Austin)...

I took a few PAR measurements of the tank, directly under the 150w DE 10,000K bulb.

A few spots in the tank. The PAR is much weaker in the front of the angle, since the light isn't aimed at that area.

This frag from Servo is loving life. It is hot pink with blue tips, and has long hairy polyps. The PAR range varies greatly, due to the wave motion from the VorTech pump.

Wow Melev, this tank is amazing on so many levels. You really are an inspiration and I really cant wait to see this tank grow out :D

meh. The talking to one another isn't always a bad thing. It means people are thinking outloud. I find the room stays quieter when the lights are out, which works best for the main discussion. :)

super glue works, it is just unsightly if you ever need to move the coral, or if it dies off... thus the movable magnets.

Awesome little setup. I'll have to figure something like that out once I redo my plumbing on my main system and possibly tie in my 90 and 125 together to the same sump.

For the past few days, I've had the light off over this tank to hopefully remove the cyano bacteria bloom that has been taking over. Tomorrow the light comes back on.

Today, as the sun was lighting up the foyer, I saw the Fungia all puffed up like a beachball again, so here are a few pictures of it. I think the coral does this in hopes of moving. Also, this is a very strange coral, in that it really is two fungias on one skeletal mass. Neither wants to give up its purchase of the structure, so it looks pretty odd every day.

It doesn't do it daily, but yes it does it during the lights out period when it is in the mood. The red favia behind it used to be where the fungia is now, and since it kept stinging it, I swapped their locations to protect it from further damage.

The fungia has two mouths. And yet the other one that came from the same original plate is in my 280g looks beautiful and perfect. It too turned into a beach ball once or twice, but wasn't in any position for me to photograph it.

Urchins can ruin acrylic, and coralline isn't a real problem in this tank. However, cyano is. Tomorrow I hope it looks far better than it has lately.

Steven Pro is visiting Tuesday. I'd like my tanks to look their best. :)

Hope to see this little tank comes back to life, It use to be a very nice setup still but it need some cleaning.

BTW you still have the nano tank with casper?

Melev,

What size bulkheads did you use for this tank? I'm looking to setup a frag tank similar to this in size on the side of my display and am wondering what's the best bulkhead size to go with.

Thanks,
Brian

That is a very cool tank design. I have seen larger examples at a few aquariums and they definatly had me thinking about making a new tank next weekends project...

It looks better already, but the tank has a uniqueness to it in that everything tends to either stay frag-sized, or gets huge. It isn't growing in evenly for some reason.

Casper died a long time ago, even after months of treating him in a hospital tank. That tank was converted into my suncoral tank instead.

1" in, and 1" out is what I used. Two 1" outs would be better though, if you want it to drain quietly. This one slurps a bit, but it does have a 15' run to drain into the sump under my 280g. That's a long run.

Hey Marc! I just wanted to say I have been checkin out your awesome work and website for about the last year! I hope to see you speak sometime in the future. I just built my first sump out of acyrlic, and thanks to all the info on you site I had the right stuff for the job and it turn out great for my first build. I will be ordering an RO/DI from you in the future also. Anyways thanks for all the help you have given me and didnt even know about it! LOL! Your a great asset to the reefing hobby!

Your nano is looking great Marc, I wish I could walk into my house and be greeted by such a nice tank. I am so envious of your rbta! What a Beut!!!
Is that bubble algae in there below the anemone? You should add some emerald crabs to get that dialed in(Just a thought.)Keep up the good work, and as always, thanks for the inspiration and ideas you give us all!
