Seaflowers, I took your advice and moved my elegance out of the flow patterns in my tank and it has responded by slowly opening back up to full. You gave some of the best advice I have seen on an elegance thread, thank you!

No problem my friend, this is one of my favorite corals and I hate seeing them die because of our failures.

I saw something recently that said they are not usually found on reefs at all but mostly in grass beds with high nutrient levels and lover light filtering through. Anyone actually have first hand knowledge of them in the WILD not how how you think they should be cared for in captivity. Seems like such a mystery species but I think a lot of that has to do with people grouping them with all the other LPS around.

I had an elegance about 6 years back that I had for 4 years until I parted with the tank. I found my success to be a result of nutrient rich water which was done by not having a protein skimmer only monthly water changes. It was also the last tank I had with a wet dry system. The lights consist of regular florecent bulbs. I wish I took pics of this coral, because I will never own one again it would never survive in my SPS dominated reef, it grew to half the size of the 55gal it was in. I don't believe the corals had changed just our husbandry. Large efective protein skimmers, MH/T5s, etc.

I just bought an Elegance only because it was one of the best specimens I have ever seen. It was about 3 hours out of the box at the LFS and they hadn't priced it yet( I dropped by on Valentines day). I asked about the price and they said $50 and I was shocked since it is at least 6 inches across before full extension. I mentioned it when I got home to the lady friend and she said lets go and get it(god i love her). A couple days later I saw that another Elegance about 2 inches across and was showing obvious die off was selling for $55....... you have to love those deals. I first placed it in a corner up a ledge and it opened up nicely but I wasn't content so I moved it to place with some more light and it never opened up as much. I moved it back to the shade and like clockwork its looking great again. I only have 155 watts CF's. I'm hoping at worst my Elegance stays looking as good as it does now.
