Mesh on PPW

I don't think the mesh will do anything

it's not attatched to anything he just stuck it on there.

you just push the mesh into the pins . it will increase some the air flow but it's also depend how this impeller spining.

Why don't you just post the question as a comment on their site?

Who reefbuilders? They didn't link the original thread in their story, I guess they don't want to link to RC?

I will ask there. I figured he used fishing line or something to hold it in place. I may try this on my PPW when I get a moment.

you don't need fishing line , just push the mesh between the pins , do it gently ...... and after that trim the mesh around the impeller .

I wonder if that kinda setup would cause the pump to burn out prematurely due to so much drag? I skimmed <--get it:p through the thread and didn't see any hard number but I admit the concept does look kinda interesting.

It's depend .... the mod will increase the pump watt but on this pump you can't put to much layer of mesh since the impeller will not spin..... 1-2 layer will give you optimum result one pin wheel (all depend on the impeller style to) .

While I don't see the need for mesh on this wheel, I'd just drill a few small holes evenly & use either fishing line or zip ties.

I would not just push the mesh in there & hope for the best. It could come loose & possibly bind the impeller, thus ruining the motor.

Mavgi and rook, you guys hit the nail on the head. I just added one layer of mesh with 2 peices of fishing line and my watts dropped to 23 and air jumped to 35-38scfh, it was 26-27scfh before. I will let it ride tonight and update tomorrow.

Mesh did Somethin

Mesh did Somethin

I just added one layer of mesh to a large PPW sicce and it starts everytime, and pulls 35scfh at 23 watts. Also, the skimmate is looking at lot better than it did with a 45scfh MW.

I did this on Pin wheel to on my Laguna and this pump was pull 45 LPM (100SCFH) without any problem . it's hold by self very well.

Mesh always perform better than a pin wheel..... i did alot of test on that same air flow pin wheel compare to mesh..... the mesh still perform better and chop the water better.
