What Is That?

It's soo trippy.

It is a member of the Cirrhipathes family. A non-photsythetic black coral, commonly called a wire coral. When they die they have a jet black bone that is very popular for making jewlery. I prefer them alive though. I just picked up another one I will be adding to the display today.

Silk coral looks great. How long has it been in your system for? I almost picked up a cultured one today, I am still contemplating on going back and picking it up.

Thanks Mike. I have had it for 7 weeks now. I am pretty sure it is growing. I also have a smaller one that I must have hit the target with. It for sure has grown and never deflates. This one is 8 inches high when it inflates.

Awesome shots! I never had luck with scleronephthya in the past, but I also didn't have my feeding and maintenance routine down. I will try again with my new tank.

What is your turn over rate in the tank?

I have no clue. Not that much. You have a hurricane going on there. The wavebox makes it unnecessary to count those things. I do have a Kor 7 that blows along the length of the tank kind of off the front glass and a 4 that comes on randomly along the same path. It runs along the top of the water down the far side and along the bottom. It gives the tank a nice laminar flow where the NPS is. The wavebox keeps everything else moving.

Yeah. LOL Oh, ok.

your wire coral looks great...are they as demanding on food as ive heard they are?
ive been debating on them but dont want something that i have to feed every day or it dies....i work alot of late shifts so byt the time i get home my tank has shut down and dont need anything i cant feed regularly...

Interesting thing about the wire. I was gone for a wek and when I got home look at what happened! Notice there is an inch of new growth on the top. I will get a better picture later I just snaped this with my phone.

Any changes to the feeding or aquarium when you were gone? More or less feeding, water changes, etc. Might need to go on vacation more often ;)

I guess so (go on vacation that is). Lots of changes, I made food mixture ice cubes and had my daughter throw them in a couple of times a day. Everything made it through the week and then I saw this surprise. It will be interesting to see if it keeps up this growth rate.
