Metal Halide Bulb broke!

Nothing to see Move along
So I came home today and noticed half of the outer glass from my 250W MH bulb in the bottom of my tank. The bulb was still lit, but the protective glass had broken. How does that happen?

If it is a DE turn the light out immediately! It is pouring UV radiation onto the corals and will kill them.

It was a SE and I turned it out as soon as I noticed that it had broken. I have no idea how long it was broken, but the corals below it are not happy :(

Single ended lamps are the ones to worry about. I know of 2 different people that had that happen and just let them run. Good thing you shut it down, that much UV light hitting the corals doesn't make for a happy thing.

John if you need a replacement just to put in there i may have one. i will look when i get home and let you know, free of charge. I also think this may be why XM changed there bulb style??

Thanks Dillon,

I have several bulbs that I can put in there. When I bought the AquaMaxx bulbs, it was a BOGO deal. I ended up getting 4 for the price of 2, but only needed 3 so I have a spare.

The corals on that end of the tank are clearly not happy. I am glad I turned it off.
