Metal Halide question

Haven't been on the forum in a while. Been super busy moving and working on my kennel.

Anyway, I have a question on metal halides. I saw some 400w metal halides for sale that were used to light up a warehouse so they aren't really fish tank lights. They are even wired on you home electrical system. Will these work for a tank and keep coral growing healthy?

I'm still super new to the hobby. :)

Thanks in advance.

it may be a challenge finding a good bulb with the spcifications of that ballast, ie...(magnetic/pulse/electronic firing, single ended or double ended, refelector)

Here's what they look like. Not sure if it helps.

Ok. Here's the deal. The guy
Said it is a magnetic ballast. Not pulse start. Use a standard E37 lamp with mogul base.

What do you all think now?

look on any online dealer/ or local store to see if they will sell a bulb in the 10-20k ratings for it. i would bet they would.

watch your electric bill and make sure it has it's own dedicated circuit. those are serious lights!

First of all I would like to ask u what kind of tank do u have? Also what kind of corals do u have or want to have? Those are some serious lights and the electric bill will show it, how much are they selling u those lights for? Usually the 400 Watts lights are for tall tanks over 30" and keeping SPS, also with those lights u might need a chiller cause they will over heat your tank, there's way too many questions in deciding what type of lighting u might need. I know that I didn't answer your question but chosing your aquarium lighting wisely will pay off with happy corals, there's a few types of lighting like Metal Halides, T-5, LED, and also a combination of each I mentioned.

I'm planning out a 75 gallon in wall tank. All equipment will be hidden behind the wall in the room next door. It's not a tall tank. The lights aren't really aquarium lights. They are the ones used to light up warehouses. A friend is selling them for 25 bucks a piece so I thought it was a decent deal. I was planning on hanging them from the ceiling about 2 ft from the top of the tank. Maximum of two. Maybe even one if the light is distributed evenly. 400 watts is serious lightning.

Metal halides? i got two metal halide fixtures for sale too!

1 is a Current, 3 x 175 watt, with white and blue leds. very quiet and really nice. it is 6 ft long. It uses double ended bulbs.

The other is Hamilton Technologies. it is an older model. also 3 lamps, not sure on the wattage. It has PC alongside, BUT the ballast for the PC lamps is "kapputt".

If anyone is interested, text/call me at 253-495-0880

also got a complete calcium reactor system.
