metal halide question

R_Hudson

Just having fun
I am thinking of getting a 150w sunpod for my tank, my question is do i need supplemental actinic lighting and about how long per day should they run. I currently am running 96w. 50/50 PC lights from coralife

good question I want to know that too. I understand that the actinic bring the color up but you can find metal halide bulb in the blue spectrum. but will the coral grow nicely too?

You wouldnt need supplemental actinic lighting, it would be fine with just the 150. I run my lights 10hrs anything around there should be just fine..

Yeah you dont really need actinic...if you want you can get a 14k phoenix bulb and it has a nice blue to it. Best bulb ive ever used.

i'm running a 70w 14K Phoenix bulb for my AP12 and the coral colors still pop. i run my MH for 8 and the LEDs for 10 hrs.

I would recommend switching over to the halides slowly, not just bam 10 hrs a day. Even when you replace the bulb it can be a bit of a shock, so slow and steady good buddy.

I really liked the color of my 20k XM HQI bulb. And I agree with GixxerChip.

Could you show us some pics of your tank with this bulb?
