Metal Halide ? XM or Hamilton

TWO questions:

First:

I need a new bulb 250watts single ended metal halide bulb.

Should I get the XM 15000K or Halmilton 14000K... which is better... I have manly frags of SPS.

Second:

I have a IceCap 250Watt ballast that came with my single ended Reef Sun Pendant.

I want to go with a double ended setup... can I still use the same ballast? I think i could but i wanted to double check.

thanks,
TN

thanks

thanks

Thanks guys for the info... I'm thinking now that I could use my Ice cap ballast for the DE halide...

I'm going to see if i can get a used 250watt DE hallide pendant and run that on my Ice Cap ballast... Ohhhh this will be an upgrade in lighting for me.

thanks again..

=)

LOL! That's good to know.

just being honest I bought a pair of new xm 20k bulbs and my 8 month old bulbs looked better than the xm's

Have you check the Sanjay light page yet? According to him, The best PAR for IC is EVC 10K DE.

Yup, i am trying to save some electricity here, ;)

I have 250watt se setup on mine. I had the hamiton 14ks for a year, I liked them but the color shifted around a lot. I just changed to xm 20k's. There was a big difference between the two but I really like them now. I also borrowed a set xm 15k's from a friend for a couple of days, there wasn't much difference between the 20k xm and the 15k xm. The 15k was a bit whiter but not much. My next bulbs will be xm 20ks for sure. I also borrowed a 20k radium and that is a really nice bulb, but I could only get it to fire when my ballest was hot, cause they require an hqi ballest. You might contact Icecap to see if that ballest can run a 20k radium, if so I would you should try that.

I am currently running the Radium 20k for 4 months. At first the bulb look really nice but the color shipped after 3 to 4 months. I am getting ready to purchase the Reeflux 10k or XM 10k. If anyone have experience with this bulb please let me know your opinion. Thanks '

250watt 20K radium

250watt 20K radium

Currently I'm running 250 watt 20K radium. It's nice, but I thought going 15k or 14k would do better in terms of coral growth for me.

I'm really considering going DE instead on SE.

But I'm not sure if that's beneficial. I was told that 250watt DE is almost as strong as 400watt MH...

I need to do much more homework before making a decision.

thanks all....

xm bulbs color seems to very on each batch... some white then others on 10k setups. i have also seen bulbs fall apart from the screw in socket... very dissapointed with the xm bulbs. i would never buy again. and soon they will get a letter from me with the overpriced crappy production of them. we will see what happens from there

junk

this is very helpful...especially the extensive explanation of why they suck
