so after fragging some zoas and paly's today and one squirted in my face(cheek/corner of the mout) I started to get the craziest metal taste in my mouth 2 or 3 hours after fragging anyone else experience this? it was a purple people eater that squirted me if that makes any difference lol

thats what I figured, at first I didn't think anything of it but then I remembered about the toxins lol, next I'll be sure to protect my face

Yeah folks need to be more careful with these IMO. Lots of stories about funny sensations, deaths of animals etc. around them.

Most likely it isn't palytoxins, if it were, you'd be very sick by now if not dead. These toxins are the most potent toxins known to man. What you are experiencing is what many have experienced over the years when handling, fragging or touching these polyps. Many will react and release what you are tasting which is sharp and metallic. You should wash the affected areas with warm soap and water. Numbness of the area sometimes follows. Contact your doctor if this persist. Many scoff at the whole concern of palytoxins, I don't, I take it very seriously as we all should. Eye protection, gloves and safely and quickly cleaning up the area you worked in as well has keeping others including small children and pets away from you when fragging and handling polyps

A friend of mine's doctor (Navy Doctor) told him in the hospital that the metal taste could last anywhere from 2 months to 2 years.

I remember reading in a Anthony Calfo journal where he talks about getting palytoxin twice and described the same exact thing. Metalic taste/numbness. I don't remember how long it lasted for him though.

This is my first time reading about this metallic taste, but it makes perfect sense to me now!

A couple months back I had this strange random metallic taste in my mouth. I had no idea what was causing it. All my food tasted wierd and I thought something was wrong with my taste buds.

After a few weeks I was considering seeing a doctor, but it eventually went away and I forgot all about it.

It makes sense now because I had been fragging palys around that time.
I must have passed some to my mouth or near my mouth. Shame on me for lack of care.

Yeah, we can´t afford lack of care with these animals. One time I was fragging some zoas and had a spill in one eye. It was red, hot and hurting in no time. Righ away went to shower with the eyes open to the worm water and it sopped to hurt. Amazing what worm water can do. We need to act fast. Better yet, wear glasses and close the mouth. Wash your hands after play with the zoas. I clean my tools and table with water first, then alcohol.
Please keep the children far from them!!!!

Happy and safe fragging!!

Grandis.

yeah that good ole worm water. hopefully they dont get mad when u use thiers when u can use a faucet. lol J/K just giving yah a hard time.

Was the worm water warm because warm worm water will weaken your Willy Wonka... in time of corse.:bounce1:

I use safety glasses, rubber gloves, and a pollen mask when I frag zoas and palys. May be overkill, but I have read some bad stories on here........

The first time, it lasted all day, then he wrote a death letter just in case and it went away when he woke up.

The second time when he rubbed his face with a towel that had toxin on it last just a few hours.

Ive heard of cases where they tasted metal for 4 months and tongue numbness. Close ur mouth and eyes!
