Metronidazole

Does anyone have experience with the use of metronidazole on ick treatment ? Seachem product states one dose only ... but when used in human treatment (protozoan internal infestation) requires 5 day treatment (with as much as 3 doses per day) .
I would like to know more about metronizadole use as possible.
It clouds the water , but if proper pH is sustained , fishes seems to be fine (using one calc reactor to control pH in Hospital tank)
Fishes seems to be better , but after 1 water change , looks like need more drug doses to full recover...

Any advice ?

Thanks a lot

Tagging along....... I have read that it can be used to treat ich, don't know how effective it is. I have been researching at quinine sulfate.

it doesent treat it save your money i increased feeding and added garlic to food they kick the ich themselves it is most always in the tank its when fish are in poor health or stressed when the ich attacks so get the fish healthy it goes away

I have actually been having positive effects with Hypo and Paraguard. If you use Paraguard by itself, it is not really effective, but when you raise the tank temp to 81-82, drop the salinity over a 48 hour period, and add the Paraguard daily for at least 3-4 days, then do a 25% water change, and treat again for another 3-4 days the fish seem to get their appetite back faster and shed the ich a bit faster. It has been working for me thus far. Hypo needs to be done for at least 6 weeks at a consistant 1.009 salinity level.

BTW, there is no known research/tests showing the benefits of GArlic in the treatment of Ich. Yes fish can "kick" the ich if they are healthy and their immunity is built up to the damage that the parasite does to the fish. It is also possible, at least in a FOWLR, to eliminate ich through proper QT prior to adding a fish to the display. If ich is already in the tank leave it fallow for 2 months and the ich will die out eventually. I personally like Hyposalinity or Cupramine to kill off ich.

Ich really does suck......

Fishes are good , still eating flakes and pellets with some selcon on it.
I made 50% water change , then add 1 more dose of metro as white spots are still visible on fishes sides. After 12 hours of second dose , add 3rd dose of metro without water change.
After dosing tanks is cloud , but 4 hours later clear , with yellow tint and strong smell of sea...
Today fishes seems to be much better , still eating well and now no spots visible on sides. Will perform 50% water change and wait if need 4 th dose or not....
BTW , at treatment, all lights are off as metro will decompose in light as most of medice.
This is not the first time using metro, but only have experience in treating discus with hexamita and severe case of ich... so it is first time using in sw ... hope can do it well as did for discus.... (at least this time using ca reator, pH is well balanced so less stress to fishes... in fw , using metro, pH can drop to 4.5 or 4 when dosed in almos 0 tds water...)

Will keep posting changes and results...

I also like cupramine ...but last time treated some fishes with cupramine lead to failure... as this time one of fishes affected is a soapfish, if use copper , will lead to gramistin release and dead fish will be the remains...
Metro treatment with hypo , is not easy due massive WC required, but is very effective ...
Fishes affected was very well and eating... tried to feed only new life garlic flakes and pellets but after 1 week, white sports were increasing...so using medice was necessary, as fishes were not able to recover themselves.... Sometimes fishes do recover from ich with proper tank care and good food, but at this time metro was the only solution before too late... hopefully fishes are fine and improving...

Fishes are fine, small marks of ich but no white spots since friday. Fishes are feeding well , so just applied total 3 doses . Now will make reduce salinity to 1009 to keep treating fishes. I think that metro can be effective in reduce massive infestation to a point where can introduce hypo. Sometimes fishes get so infested , that even with hypo cannot recover so maybe metro can be used as impact treatment and with some recovering (like fishes feeding strong) and after a period of water quality improvement (WC to remove metro from system) can do the hypo to finish treatment...

well testing hypo phase now ...
