I'm finally a certified diver!

Video was taken with my Panasonic GF-1 with 8mm fisheye lens.

The housing is a 10Bar GF-1 housing with dome port.

I wish I could say I did the filming, but I needed both hands to do all the underwater drills as a part of the PADI certification, so I hired an underwater videographer to shoot these scenes for me on my dive (with my setup). I think he did a great job!

Very nice. I was thinking that for a small point and shoot camera, that panasonic did very well.

Then I looked them up and realized they are more than a point and shoot. I was hoping to replicate your results in my next Hawaiian vacation but I dont want to drop that kind of money into a new camera system now, I'd just end up buying a underwater case for my 5d mkII.

Again, very nice video, it looks pretty much like a professional video.

And by the way, congrats on getting certified.

I've been certified for 11 years now, I love to dive but I get very little chance to do it. I go to Hawaii almost every year, but what happens is all my friends and family who go with us arent certified so if I was going to go dive, I'd be ditching everyone I'm on vacation with, so I end up just snorkeling with everyone else which is pretty good.

Watching videos like this though make me want to arrange a good scuba dive again for next time I'm there :)

Thanks! I don't know what took me so long to get certified. I've been on many dives before this trip, and each time I did the beginner scuba class. It's silly really.

As for vacations, I have no such hangups on leaving behind friends and family that don't want to dive, lol.

One thing I like about Panasonic cameras that I don't like about the Canons and Nikons is the continuous AF in video mode. I have a really hard time as it is with an underwater housing that manual focus would be so very difficult. It is also harder than it seems to compose with a rear LCD. If I was just shooting stills it's not so bad I guess but for video it is very important. My Canon 5D2 absolutely kills my Panasonic in image quality and especially ISO performance, but the AF on the Panasonic makes up a lot of ground. Also, housings for small Panasonics are 1/4 the cost of housings for larger Canons.
