Whats a good MH double ended bulb brand for a bubble tip and what K rating should I use for a 55gal with a 3-4 sand bed? I currently have a XM 10K bulb in there that I beleave is either 6 months to a year old, good choice or do I need to replace it?

What wattage?
Do you have any supplemental lighting?

Over my 75 (( which has 2 S. Haddonis )), I am using the 20,000K XM ((2* 250 watt, DE )), along with 2 54 T5 KZ Fiji purple and 2 54 T5 G-man actinic.

I second this, went from 20k to the 14k phoenix and faster growth and vivid colors. The 20k kind of washes out the colors.

That's the problem. I feel that the Phoenix washes out colors yet I like the Ushios... A lot of lighting is really personal opinion.

I have XM and I see no reason to change. I've tried Ushio, which I didn't like and Coralvue, which were fine, but not my favorites. Hellolights is a good online source I would suggest you checkout. Sometimes they have specials also. I think they offer free shipping for MH bulbs.

Has anyone had good luck with the xm bulbs?

I am using the 20,000K (( 250watt DE )) XM over my 75 (( along with 2*54 KZ Fiji Purples and 2*54 G-man Actinic )) and I am very happy with them.

Here is a "close-up" of one of my Haddonis (( really hard to a FTS with the proper white balance )).

Sweet...I think im going to try the 15k 150 xm bulb. I currently have the 10k xm bulb in there that prolly was used for 6 months, do they need to be replaced due to age?

Not sure about that one. Does anyone know if the 15K lamp is as dim as it used to be? I know the old ones were outperformed even by XM 20K lamps.
