MH bulbs and ballast?

would it screw with the ballast and bulbs if i turned my halideds on and off 2 times a day?

i read an article in which a group of scientists did a project on photosynthetic creatures. they found that most things did best when they were under drirect artificial light for several hours then a 1 hour break, then on for several more hours.

i was considering having my actinics on from 11- 11. and have the halides come on from 3 - 6 off for 1 hour then 7- 9

what do you think?

or should i just have them on from 4- 9?

I would give the bulbs a chance to cool down longer than 1 hour.

I used to run this schedual on my larger tank.
On 10am
Off 3pm
On 6pm
Off 12midnight.

My "chili coral" came out after the morning light and so did some of my other nonphotosynthetic creatures and stayed out during the second coming of the light.

I'm planning to do the same thing on my new tank, a little different hours tho.
