I pretty much set....Now what the heck is all this 10k 12k 13k 20k talk!!!???

Im thinking of tearing apart my PC (4x55w 2xactnics 2-daylight) and supplementing system like ive seen a few here with some hint of blue or are there any bulbs that can have both daylight and blue that way I can sell the PC set up and buy some needed items?...

So this is how its gonna go down...

VIEW:On ground staring down at it.
I will have 570w If I do the PC thing... But Im cool with only 2x175 bulbs If I can get it to look like I want it Im only doing softies anyway...And the last thing I want is to overheat my tank and room...And the parents tripping on electricty bill.

The k in the rating is for kelvin, the highger the kelvin rating the bluer the bulb is. With the PC they usually have 10k and actinics, with the MHS you need to choose what is appealing to you. With the lower kelving rating the more yellow it looks to our eyes but you will have more growth. The higher kelvin will bring out the colors in your corals but will sacrifice in the growth dept. If you go with the 14k or similar bulb alot of us have had success with thsese especially the ac/phoenix bulbs which give you the best of both worlds. When I was running the 10ks I had to suppliment with some vho actinics to get the blue in the mix,but that means more electricity which you don't want.

hey sam u seen my tank and i was running 2-20K Helios HQI bulbs along with a mix of 260W of actinic and daylight PC's

what did u think it?

to me its a nice crisp white/blue look

Hell yea! That was some nice lighting dude!

Reason Im going withjust the MH's and not supplement with PC's is the heat, and electricity.

Ive seen some 14k's they look nice, just what Im going for.

Sam

yeah it should work perfect on your tank the 14K's should be the best bet without using any supplementation!

electricity is an issue these tanks get expensive out here and during the summer gotta watch for the temps
