MH cooling fan necessary?

My tank is in my room, and the cooling fan that is built in is throwing lots of hot air into the room Would it be alright turning it off?

I would say that it depends on the temperature of your tank... The cooling fan "throws" the hot air from your pendant/canopy and into the room so that your tank does not get overheated... If you don't have a problem maintaining a lower temperature in your tank, then you don't need to have your cooling fan on... Hope this helps...

Thank you for respoding ct_vol! I don't think tank temperature will be a problem. I was just worried that shutting the cooling fan off will harm my MH

It will reduce the life of the MH, IMO.

I don't mind buying bulbs a little earlier if it means not having a large mass of hot hair being throw into my room, making it an oven

There are ballasts & electronics inside the fixture that could be damaged if allowed to get too hot.

The heat has to go somewhere. Leaving it inside the fixture is not a good plan, IMO.

The fan will definitely extend the life of the MH bulb. Also, like above, it will protect the wiring and any ballasts inside from overheating.
