Has anyone ever tried to use the metal halides used for hydroponics on a tank. I found a store that has the hydroponics lights for prices much less than Ive seen anywhere else. Has anyone tried this? and if not what should I look for to make sure that they work.

It depends I guess.. do you have a link or info about them? The bulbs aren't going to be the right Kelvin.. but bulbs you can replace..

Commercial halides usually run around 4200k or less. Most people don't want to look at lighting that yellow.

the bulbs are actually 10,000k....so that part doesnt bother me. IS that the only thing that is going to effect the effectiveness on my ability to keep coral
