MH Only??

Would LPS and softies do ok under MH lighting only? Is there something in the actinic that they need to survive?

What kind of effects can I expect if i were to only run my MH with no actinic suplimentation?

My LPS, softies and pair of SPS *appear* to be doing just fine under my MH only lights, I started out with 10k bulbs, now I'm using 14k (still not sure I like the blue)..
I'd like to know also if there's something in arctinic lights that they need..

hey miztic. Are your 14k really blue?, what kinda 14ks are they?. I had some XM 15k Double ended and they still seemed yellow to me.

I always like adding actinic t5s along with MH because in order to get the proper look under MH you really need to look into the higher kelvin bulbs but then growth rates drop too much IMO. I think something around 10-12k for growth with t5 (for look) supplementing is the best way to go.

I have been running nothing but halides for almost 2 years.
I just for some T5 actinics that i will be installing in the next couple weeks

mine are phoenix DE 14k bulbs, the pic is really blurry, but conveys the blue pretty well:

the camera makes it slightly more blue then it really is, the auto-white balance can't handle it :) I have to adjust the image manually a little to make the colors come out right..

They do not require actinic, it is really just for looks. In fact some of the commercial coral growing places use 6,500k MH in their grow out tanks, doesn't look too good but gives the coral heaps of useable light at the cheapest price.
