Mhucasey's SPS obsession

Matt, did you see the recent report that cam out saying that 13 out of 16 green chromis tested positive for Cyanide poison. Might be one of the reasons. That green chromis tend to go down to one fish in a tank.
https://www.hakaimagazine.com/article-short/fishing-cyanide

I didn't see the article but it doesn't surprise me. I get mine from a LFS that purchases from a good supplier and haven't lost any of the 9 from them in the last year. I did purchase 18 from a not so good fish store and lost all of them over 2 weeks.

Man the colors are looking awesome! Keep it up!

Thanks Joe! i have been dosing MicroE exclusively for trace elements for about a month at 6 drops per day, but based on your dosing I switched to dosing just Zinc and Manganese at about 2/3rds the dose you have been using. I already was dosing Iodine at the same rate as you so Ill leave that unchanged. It's an experiment so Ill see how it goes with just those three.

Hey Matt, great pics and acros! What piece is this? I like it a lot. :D

love the fts, Matt. you have so much going on in there, its so wild looking.
I wish my TDF would look like yours.. mine is so boring and colourless.. I think it's a light lover, I'm not sure i have intense enough light for it..
Love the dog shots.. we have begun there search for a new dog.. I've been 2 1/2 years now without my pooch.. the kids are begging and I have my wife on board so I won't be the sole caregiver this time. :)

Ok, for all my RC friends out there who have problems taking pictures of their reef that don't offend the eye...cough cough Mike...I will show you how to take good pics with whatever camera phone you have - and it's cheap.

Step one: Buy one of these or similar(~11 dollars):

Step 2: Buy some Ausreef Gels:

There is a link on the facebook page or you can contact them through there. The filters are 20 bucks.

Step 3: Disasemble the Macro lens and remove the lens piece. Cut a piece of filter gel into a circle and insert into the housing in place of the lens. The black retaining ring can be screwed back in to hold it:

Step 4: Stick the metal base ring on your phone over the camera lens. I cut my case a bit so I can use the filter without removing the case:

Step 4: Magnetically attach the filter when you want to take a picture!:

Step 5: Take pictures like these, no color retouching needed!:

Thanks Matt:). Like yours, my reef has been really growing in the last few months, it sneaks up on you with how much growth has occurred. The TDF is very much a light lover- that piece was darker green with a bit of red at the tips but it's getting more pink and flourescent each day now that it is in a prime spot.

Very excited to hear about your dog search! What kind of dogs are you interested in?

What are you looking to achieve ?

Minimal dosing or something else ?

Thanks for the camera tutorial, was very informative

I did think it was a tad cruel to make an example of poor Mike. You've seen his spooky twisted acro scape so it's obvious he's not quite right :spin1:
For all we know he thinks his pics are ok so rather than tearing his pitiful attempts at photography apart perhaps try to take a leaf out of my reef book and focus on the positives.

' Wow Mike pics are terrible ' - negative spin

' Wow Mike pics can't get any worse ' - positive spin

You're starting to sound a lot like Sahin when i see you slagging your fellow reefers.......:debi:

Hey Matt tank is looking amazing man. Those pieces just keep getting better and better . What are you dosing now from af, and how much. Also if i read correctly, you are dosing FW stop. Any reason for that? Read Perry was using some as well.

Because of the many criteria to take into account- my wife will not tolerate a barker (like our last dog) I am allergic to dogs, my 11 year old daughter is afraid of dogs (but is still begging for a calm and relaxed dog) and my 8yr old daughter just wants a cute and fluffy puppy.
I'll give you one guess as to what we've narrowed it down to..
Yep.. A golden labradoodle... I find them pretty generic and boring but like I said, it's gotta fit the bill.. I'm sure once it comes home and we get to know it, it'll quickly become 'our favorite dog'
There is a very good breeder right here in Quebec, so I've contacted him and we'll be paying him a visit in the next couple of weeks to see his facility.

Thanks man. Yea I remember the AEFW, but you said it wasn't that bad of an infestation. Guess you have to keep doing it for a while so they don't come back. Also no Coral E? or micro E anymore?

I'm dosing the Individual elements right now rather than MicroE to limit the addition of Iron and Copper. Flatworm Stop is a supplement to strengthen the corals and make them unpalatable to the worms, so you need to keep it up for a while to be most effective.

Dogs are amazing and can teach anyone about unconditional love, true unrestrained joy, and living life to the fullest. I'm happy for you:)
