Mhucasey's SPS obsession

Or just the opposite. A higher level of bacteria in the water column due to the lower flow rate and local rock/sand hosting of beneficial bacteria.

Any measureable difference in nitrates between the 2 tanks ?

Any detritus visible on the bare bottom tank ?

There is actually a pretty healthy flow in the Flubber tank, less than the SPS tank for sure but the water is moving pretty well. There was slightly less inflow from the sump. The SPS tank has zero cyano and a small pile of detritus will form in the same spot(maybe 3 inches across). Otherwise no detritus at all, not even on the rocks. I siphon the pile of detritus out of the SPS tank every other day.

I do get some cyano on the sand in the flubber tank, often it separates off the sand and breaks up just before lights out. I don't see any different amounts of nitrate in either tank. Its very very strange...

Hey Matt where did you get your plastic rocks, the vendor from eBay? He sold out on a lot of his stock, but he should be getting more in soon. Just wondering if there was another place.

Things are looking good.

Yep I got them from the eBay vendor. These rocks have become pretty popular lately:)

Yeah I figured, thanks. I'll start my build thread in a month or so closer to things getting wet, been waiting on my parents new house to be built. Then you can keep an eye on my experiment as well. ;)

No the video won't bloody do Matt because you have it marked as private meaning you're the only one who can watch it. :debi:

I highly doubt you're going to win youtuber of the month any time soon mate...........

Thanks Biggles, I still have a few struggling acros though, I'm not sure what the exact problem is, but Ill figure it out eventually...

Very Nice !

So the returns and the Gyre are it for flow ?

How's the Mandarin doing ?

Yes the Gyres are at about 50% power on Pulse mode, the return generates a little bit of current but its not a jet or anything like that, I wanted to maximize flow to the tank more than velocity.

The Mandarin is doing well, quite fat in fact. He hasn't had any issue with flow. This tank is seething with amphipods and coepepods.

I love your mandarin Matt, didn't realise you had that little guy in there mate. Once i have the sand back in and settled i intend getting one for the peninsula. They're so cool to watch hovering around all day and i've never had a problem keeping one with the high flow usually associated with SPS displays. They soon work out the paths to take between rock structures to avoid strong currents. :)
