Right now all the fish in my tank eat pellets and I'd like to try to keep it this way so I can start using the auto-feeder. I had a midas blenny before and loved it. I'd like to add another, but he was terrible at trying to get floating pellets off the surface, he'd try but almost always miss and the clowns would just clean up leaving him with not much. Is this typical? Are there mouths just not built for this or was it just this one guy that wasn't too good at it?

I have the NLS sinking pellets but they don't really sink unless they hit the surface with some force or they're soaked in water first.

You can try and use some type of catch can under the auto feeder. That way the food does not get swept away before it has time to soak and sink. I've seen people using clear cups cut and strapped under the feeder. Make sure the cup is partly under the water line, once the food soaks it'll sink giving the midas a chance.

I have a midas and I mix nls pellets with flakes in my auto feeder. He always gets something.

Try mixing different sinking pellets foods. The pellets from Sustainable, Salifert & Elos sink pretty well. Use a combo of foods in your feeder.
