Mike's 300 Double-D

We really appreciate the kind words, Carrie. Do you have any pics of your setup?

I have a build tread...70 gallon Oceanic tank Build. I'm not sure how to make a link so if this doesn't work it shows up under a screach by the title.

It not much, for the small space we live in...so I am taking lots of notes for the DD I want to get when we move to a house with a basement...someday.

Slowly but surely. I placed an order with liveaquaria that should be in tomorrow, so I'm excited to have a bit more life in the stock tank I'm using right now. I'll have to post pictures I guess.

Chris, your attention to detail and your DIY skills are awesome. Keep up the good work!

Beautiful Fish!!

Thanks JSnipe. The Bellus pair got a bit stressed out being chased (particularly the big male was harrassed terribly by the IOS tang), but I think they are finally getting settled in.

nice tank realy kool

Appreciate the kind words - thanks for stopping in.

Thanks Carrie - we found your build thread. Nice job there. You and are lucky to live with people who share our passion for the hobby, eh? :love2:

That video was Amazing!
Thanks Richard. Hope to have you guys over soon...probably October is when we'll host the RRC meet..if we can get us "penciled in"... ain't it great that we have so many wonderful reefers in town to keep our meeting calendars full?!?

OK, how about a quick update before I go to bed.

Took some pics tonight and thought we'd share:

Thanks Chris. The wrasse has been undergoing a sex change The new look is growing on us, but we're going to start shopping for another female... He was so pretty as a she and it took us so long to finally find her/him. Do you think he'll get along with a new female if we can find one?

Thanks beex. It feels like an awfully long project, with all the planning and execution. Heck, it's almost been a year since we started on it.

Thanks Doug! The corals are starting to color up. We're still not where we want to be - getting the alk and ca dialed in, etc. But it's getting there. The coral you ask about is a "bottle brush" we got from our LFS (fishworld). Haven't studied it up yet to get an ID on the species...anyone happen to know?

OK for an update:
We got around to working on the frag tank/refugium this weekend.
The current set up is a real mess...it's a standard AGA 75g that has an acrylic partition in the center which effectively divides the tank into two, and then a small overflow partition on the right side. We've got live rock in both sides, with a real forest of macro algae growing in both sides as well, and trying to grow frags on the right side. Of course, the eggcrate frag rack was constantly overgrown with macro.

Long story short, we decided to scrap the eggcrate rack and fabricate an acrylic rack. We picked up a piece of acrylic, and used a 1/2" speedbor to cut the holes.

Then, we needed to clean up the mess in the current refugium. We moved most of the rock and all of the macro algae over the right side, and then cleaned up the left side a bit. Here's a few shots of our work:

We're also playing with the lighting in the display tank, but that will have to wait until our next update...

Just saw this tank in person yesterday. Friggin amazing. Pictures do not do this setup justice. Very well thought out and beautifully done.

Absolutely beautiful Mike & Terry!
Thank you, Rick! Hope to see you and Randi at the party next month.

Since our last update, we've added some Tropic Eden Reef Flakes sand, raised our lighting 4.5" and replaced the left 250w Ice Cap ballast and bulb with a Lumatek 250/400w ballast and 400w Radium 20k bulb. We're in the process of ordering two more ballasts and bulbs to replace the other two.

We also picked up a couple of new corals and took the opportunity to move some livestock around. We're still very much in the process of evaluating where the corals look best (and thrive), so it is pretty much constant experimentation.

Here are some full tank shots with the new ballast/light on the left:

I STILL love that green slimer. In my "long term vision" of my tank I want to have my small central island have some lower light LPS around the edges and one massive green slimer colony just like yours growing up from the sand bed almost to the top. I saw one guy who did this with his tank (not many corals, just a few select HUGE ones) and the effect was very impressive!

Nice Tank, love the regal and sailfin

Thanks so much. We love the regal despite the fact that she feels the need to "taste-test" most of our coral and the tang is definitely the Boss of the Tank. :D

Alex, we've got a nice "chunky" piece of that stag waiting for you when you are ready...

I keep forgetting I'm on the east coast now, Richmond is only two hours away from me so I might actually take you up on that offer sometime in the future! I Have an uncle in Richmond and I've heard there are some really nice saltwater stores there, I'm sure I could merge everything into one visit.
