Mike's Anemone Tank Build

I'm assuming the anemone moved to the corner to avoid the bright LED's? Do you think this is what happened?

Hi,

It actually moved about 3 months ago while still under the MH. I just added the LEDs 8 days ago. It doesn't seem too bothered by the LEDs (either too bright or too dim) but I'm keeping watch on it to see.

Very nice anemone. Too bad about the Blackfoot clown. I wanted to add a pair of this to my tank before but hesitance because I read that they were soooooo mean. That plus they are very hard to get here in Corpus. Nobody can get them wild caught. The Petco here bring them in occasionally (tank raise) but I never consider the these babies because even young, I see shape abnormality in these babies.

Do you have another tank for your Red Haddoni?

Nice build!! Tagging along
Thanks! I can't promise it will get much better!

Black-footeds were really hard to find for me, as well. But Toronto, and the surrounding area, has recently (in the past few years) had a few really good marine stores spring up. One shop has been able to supply me with a few black-footeds. He was the one to supply me with the mean clown. The story goes: he had it in one of his coral tanks - a long-term unwanted fish - and I had admired it. But it wasn't for sale. He brought in some little ones and I bought 4. They all died within a week (seemingly typical of this species). I went back to the store and asked him to order some more, and told him what happened. He felt bad and offered me the mean fish. I took it without hesitation. It is a very beautiful fish. He still has two for sale which surprises me that they lived that long.

The carpet died about a year after I got it. I'm not sure what happened but I'm thinking it was probably too big when I got it. They don't tend to transfer too well when they are too big. Maybe the sand wasn't deep enough; only 4 inches, mixed grades. It was under MH lights all that time. I might have to check my records but my tank may have also been relatively new when I bought it. Maybe 6 months. It's not like I'm new to marine aquariums or new, even to anemone-keeping, but I think I pushed my luck with the pink carpet. It was cheap, only $200, so I thought I scored big and didn't wait like I should have. Then again, I put the purple LTA into a new tank, immediately and it's doing fantastic. Who really knows.

Finally, the clown is as mean as ever. It severely limits the fishes I can add so I'm essentially stuck with just the one fish.

The nigripes has killed two cleaner shrimps and a blood shrimp and fed them to the anemone. I added them yesterday. The watchman goby (unless it's tunneled) is gone, too. The tiger pistol is alive as well as all of the crabs. Both of the little damsels as still there, too, and fully intact, which seems weird. The clown still chases them a few inches if she sees them but they're there.

Anyway, I can't add anymore "nice" animals to this tank except for corals now. When I upgrade, I'll reconsider this clown. A VERY mean fish.
