Milky white water.

my aquarium water was milky white starting 3 days ago. I did a 15% water change with no help. I took a sample to a local fish store and found out my salinity was at 1.018. Over the past day I have been raising the salinity back up slowly to 1.024. could the low salinity be causing cloudy water?

I purchased a instant ocean hydrometer and apparently it was not calibrated correctly. I didnt even know that was an issue.

Without knowing further details about your tank, one culprit could be a precipitation event, usually caused by adding too much calcium/alk supplement, or an algae bloom. Do you measure alk, calcium and mag? Keeping them in balance is a way to avoid a precipitation. Algae blooms erupt from too much feeding and a host of other causes. Can you tell us more about the history of your tank?

The tank is at 1 month old and I havnt bought a test kit yet. I am ordering one tomorrow.

+1 bacterial bloom. Test your water. Big water changes with older tanks help but if you don't have anything in your tank i would let it settle itself out.

I added sand and water over a month ago. I have a large ammonia spike at .2 I bought seachen stability hopefully dosing that will help.
