I have a 180 gallon mixed reef and I do 25 gallon water changes weekly. I do have a large bio load and I i feed alot. Presently I have an Aqua C ev 180 skimmer running. Its pulling some skimmate but I think its not enough for my bioload. I just purchased a Super Reef Octopus xp 3000 ext cone skimmer but just havent had the time to hook it up.

Carbon is adviced in all reef tanks, specially mixed reef, to take up the chemicals corals give off to prevent a chemical war between them. soft corals do give off ALOT of chemicals to fight for space and light and ... .

Carbon will also remove alot of heavy metals and impurities which could be the cause of this !

I'm gonna ask if you have done any bigger than usuall water changes or if you have lowered nutrition in tank alot suddenly ? when I was experimenting with some Zeo additives, I reduced nutritions alot and boom the millis were Pxxxed off lol I solved it by adding Zeovit Xtra which is a mix of many different corals foods, other coral foods may have the same effect.

What kind of fish do u have? Have u added any new fish? Have u changed ur flow ammount or patterns? Other than that i agree w the above post(s).

Based on the info you have provided thus far, we can only make unreliable guesses.

What has changed recently?

How long were the millis doing well for?

I did recently put in a small blue angel. Maybe he's the culprit.
I do have a bag of carbon in my sump.
Also, I was religiously adding pohls xtra and coral vitalizer and oyster eggs. I have been working seven days a week and 10 hour days so the tank has been kind of neglected.
