Mimic tang ok for 105g?

I wouldn't hesitate to put a mimic in that tank. Did you look at the tomini? Beautiful fish and you won't get such a negative tone. Just my .02

Fair enough. I guess I'm not really a centerpiece fish guy. They use up too much space and bioload IMO. Good luck.

Really? I've got a 9 year old yellow tang who has been in a 120 his entire life and he's started pacing. I got him from a friend a couple of years ago who couldn't keep him due to downsizing (needed a good home and I was the only candidate at the time) and while he's perfectly healthy the 4' length is OBVIOUSLY not enough for him. Since he went from one 120 to another 120, I figured it would be ok...it's not. It's only a matter of time before the confines of the 4' tank really gets to them, in my opinion. I've got another option for a very large tank to put him in and that's where he's going...he's one of the very few lucky ones.
Not trying to be tang police really...just saying that I don't think any Zebrosoma tangs are really appropriate for 4' tanks, ultimately. Admittedly, I do fall onto the "no tang is suitable for any of our tanks" side of the fence a little bit though.

Not to get too far off, wasn't this thread started on Acanthurus? Specifiaclly Chocolate, Acanthurus pyroferus.

I am considering a Mimic for the reason that through my research i've found that quite a few Acanthurus tangs tend to be more docile (Obviously not the Powder Blue) and less focused on straight line speed than other species.
I actually had a Powder Brown (3-4'') in my 3x2 and he was a lovely fish who spent most of his time grazing and hanging out with my Clarkiis. He was due to be moved to this tank until he got WS (I relied on a a 2 week LFS QT) and wiped out my tank.
So i'm back doing things properly this time with a dedicated QT setup and a bigger tank.
Like i said there will always be divided opinion, some people don't see what species of tang, they see tang + 42'' tank = DIEDIEDIE, rather than the behaviour of that tang species. I know for certain that my tank size has more than enough volume to cope with the bio load of this fish and probably other big fish.
I assumed (Albeit wrongly) that one would be ok so i put this thread up, so far, no ridiculous tang police outbursts :beer:

The whole "Tang Police" thing is akin to the "Politically Correct" moniker. It's used by people who basically "cant handle the truth" of the fact that their tank is too small to humanely house a tang that they want to keep. I'd like to see the term never used again. After seeing yellow tangs and achilles and luitenant and other tangs swimming in the wild, it's patently obvious they deserve as much room as we can give them regardless of genus.

What I'm saying is, error on the side of caution. It's not just about what you want. It's about the life of another living thing. And I'm not all high horse, this could be applied to me and my attempts to keep difficult species (like pipefish) as well.
Tang police is a term used for people who don't offer anything constructive and simply go for the jugular as soon as someone mentions tang and a tank that is even a tiny bit unacceptable.
I've been told in this thread that my tank is not acceptable long term in an informative way based on personal experience of more experienced members, i've also been told by other members who could equally be as experienced that it will be ok.
I'm sorry but from what angle of my posts do you assume that i am going to ignore the advice i've been given and just go against it because its what i want?
I said i was considering it, not that i would ignore the advice, hence why i asked for an alternative centre piece.
