Minh, have you seen blue gigs change primary colors in response to lighting? The last baby blue gig I had turned purple like typical purple gigs. Admittedly, my LEDs have a fair amount of purple (405nm/430nm) in addition to the typical royal blues (465nm). Once it shifted to purple it never went back and looked that way even under normal room lighting. Beautiful gig btw!

ps - no, I am not color blind.

I have seen Gig that is blue and turn into bicolor with blue and purple under high light. My large, huge, Gigantea change from brown when he was about 3 inches to green at 18 inches with better light.
I think the color does not really change but under very bright light, they start to produce much more color pigments and sometime the minor amount of pigment become apparent when it intensify.

Not to high jack your thread but I am a new member and need opinions on my new gigantea the I received from live aquaria on 3-17-2017. It came out of the shipping box inflated with a tightly closed mouth. After temp and drip acclimation it was placed on a nice rock with a hole/crevice in the center of the tank where it is getting great flow and lighting. It has yet to move from where I put it and is very rigid and responsive. It has only deflated the slightest amount to expell some waste and it immediately re inflated all while keeping a firm mouth. My question and concern is that I believe it may be partially bleached. It appears worse with tank lighting on but tentacles appear near white under lights and slightly tan with lights out. The base and mouth are nice and tan and the purple dot pattern is bold and bright. The foot is extremely sticky and it has latched firmly onto the rock I placed it on however it's tentacles do not feel sticky. Is this a great concern or just part of acclimation process?

Opinion on gigantea

Opinion on gigantea

Received a large gigantea from live aquaria 3-17-2017 and it has been doing really well. Came out of the bag inflated with a tight mouth. After temp and drip acclimation it has remained where I put it and it's getting good lighting and flow. Mouth has remained closed and it has remained inflated. My only concern is it appears to be slighty bleached. The base and mouth are nice and dark tannish color and the purple dot pattern is nice and vibrant. The foot is extremely sticky however the tentacles do not feel that sticky. Are these concerns to be overly worried about or is it typical of a newer acclimating anemone?View attachment 369869

he looks healthy but bleached. Just give him good condition and he should recover. How much light do you have him under?

I have a 180 gallon tank with 55 gallon sump. I have 2 165w 16000k maxspect razor r420r fixtures over the tank. Anemone is mid range up rock work where I initially placed him. I still have plenty of percentage power to turn them up if needed.

I have a haddoni that has thrived under this light at 60% power for 2-3 years. Hes even lower (sandbed). I know gigs want more lighting though, that's why I placed him mid range and bumped the percentage up slightly. When should I attempt food, a month or so?

Also, I have been reading your posts for a while to gather information on gigs. Sorry to high jack your thread but I wanted your opinion specifically. You seem to be highly respected in regards to this species, thanks for your time and opinions.
