Mini Carpet Anemone

:deadhorse: hey, so i have been looking around and i think im going to buy a mini carpet anemone, http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=497+499+3219&pcatid=3219 . i just need some tips from you pros. Anything i should know about him that's really important, i have been doing reserach for some time now. In my tank now, i have some turbo snails some hermit crabs, 1 blue spot puffer, 1 o. clownfish, 1 azure damsel ,and 1 purple dottyback, also a mushroom coral frag in there as well. Mainly i am concerned with how can i feed this anemone and will it be okay with corals, because i plan on adding a bunch more corals to my tank! Also, an alternative to the mini carpet would be a bulb tipped anemome, how would it do?

Extremely hardy. Very pretty. Not aggressive at all towards other cnidarians.

They will eat anything. ANYTHING. Notorious fish eaters. The one I had in my reef downed two wrasses before I finally set up a desktop maximini nano.

I have 1 in my tank and don't have any problem with. Haven't lost any fish and I never feed it. They will not move and that is good. I have put it on the sandbed with a small rock and never moved.

Yep, S. tapetum. Maximini is another name for them.

I initially had one in my 120g reef, with both LPS and SPS corals. I now have 4 in a~ 7g nano. The nano gets 2g WCs every week or so, and is lit by a "reef spectrum" par38 led bulb.

They don't wander much as long as they have a nook for their foot, and tolerate a variety of light and flow conditions.

mine moves around a little on his rock but never off it, but I dont have it against any other rocks so he would have to cross some sand to move off. Usually he ends up right back where he started. I have seen him eat pellets, myssis and brine through target feeding and just what he catches through flow. There are a cpl mushrooms on the same rock and they dont bother each other. No fish issues yet, but there is always a small risk since maximini's are a very sticky anenome variety if I remember right.

I kind of want to get a sexy shrimp for him to use the maxi as a dance floor =)

thats awesome! but what is spawning!? also, if you never feed him how does he stay alive? also i have a featherduster, forgot to mention. big ol' maxi mini probably would be fine with him right ?

How long has your tank been running? It's suggested you wait around 6 mos. before adding nems to a new system. Not sure if you need to add more rock; how many lbs. do you have already? What size is your tank? The puffer is fine, but other 3 are quite aggressive fish...

He will stay alive from the light and it will get food from the water when you are feeding your fishes. Mini carpets are easy to care , but it need high lighting. What light do you have and how many watt?

hey man, atm i have a "Power-Glo" 15W but i plan on getting a real better one, unless of course this light is suitable, i don't know to be honest, do you think it is suitable. and i am still stuck on decisions bulb anemone, mini carpet, or tube anemone. :deadhorse1:

If your light is 15 watt then it will be not enough. You need much better light then this. Tube anemone will be ok I think.....they need low light, but you need deep sand bed for the tube, because they will bury their foot in the sand. This light is also no good for bubble tips (bulb anemone) . If you are changing lights ....do some research or ask advise here on the forum. I have waste a lot of money on lights. Never trust you lfs. I shouldn't have listen to them.

awhl, man defiantly seen it coming, but what do you recommend for a light? and would a bulb anemone be able to be good in my tank? even though it's a 20 gallon, or should i stick with the maxi mini, im just afraid for my fish's sake, i don't want to lose any of my dear fishys. also i plan on getting rid of my tanks lid and replacing it with a really nice LED light. should i post a picture of my tank and show you a picture? for a better perspective?

20 gallon is not a problem for a bubble tip. For the led lights it depends on how much money you are able to spend. I heard that the Chinese black box 120 watt led are not bad and not expensive, but of course there high quality LEDs on the market like " Kessil " but they are expensive. I have bubble tip , maxi mini and haddoni carpet anemones in my tank and haven't lost 1 fish. I have to tell that bubble tips like to walk in the tank a lot and that would be a problem if you have many corals, because it will sting your corals dead.

Doesn't have to be led. LEDs just offer a lot more control. For a 20 u could also use t5, or halide if u running a chiller. Both of these are tried and tested. I would stay away from the BTA and the tube anemone for now. The maxi is your best bet as they are more forgiving but you'd still need better lighting.
