minimal equipment sps tanks... K.I.S.S method

i want to see any sps tanks that dont use a ton of equipment ie; calcium reactors, media reactors, controllers, zeo, ats, vortechs, etc... just curious what some of you think about less equipment on your tanks. please post:beer:

The equipment you have mentioned are intended to simplify the maintenance of sps. Without the ca rx or dosers or ato I will be doing extra chores daily on top of feeding and cleaning the tank just to keep the system running.

+1 psychobowler said. It just makes things a lot easier when you automate things. I hated monitoring stuff and dosing manually. I got dosers found out how much my tank used up, and set it to dose Alk and Cal. Now, all I have to do is replenish the container when it is used up (every month or so). I got an Apex controller, which was my best investment ever. There is nothing like being able to control your whole system with your iPhone and knowing your basic parameters i.e. temp, pH, salinity w/o testing. Vortechs are just awesome pumps, wide spread random flow. I would rather have 2 Vortechs than a lot of other pumps cluttering the display. I also use Carbon/GFO reactor to keep phosphate in check and the water clear. You could definitely get away without media reactors if you have your nitrates/phosphates in check.

You probably could get away with not having all these things. In fact, I know people that have better tanks that don't utilize any of it. I just find it makes maintenance a little easier.

I have an AC50 with chempire and purigen, and a mp10. No sump or anything. I put 6 teaspoons of kalk in my top off, and do manual top offs. I think my set up is pretty basic. Only thing I'd change is, I want an elos ATO.

Same here... I travel extensively for work and would not be able to stay in this hobby if it weren't for my ATO and CaRX... For larger systems with a heavy SPS load, some type of Ca and Alk replacement system is necessary to maintain growth...

Stability Promotes Success and technology allows me to maintain stability while away.

All that being said, on my 58g I only do weekly 5-10g changes to maintain it... But I do have an ATO. ;)

Mixed reef here with sump, protein skimmer, carbon and phosphate media in a reactor, UV sterilizer(probably overkill). I want to add a doser to my system, but everything is healthy...just growing slowly!

I also travel for work and require automation. My wife only wants to feed the tank. So all the equipment makes sps reefkeeping a little less demanding than the wife.

I have basically the same setup on my 225 with 75 sump/fuge. Only difference is I have an ATO with alk added. I use Hydor for flow, a canister filter for a media chamber and Chinese LED s for light. Very basic, but everything is growing very well and it keeps the cost reasonable.

I have a 40 breeder with a 20 refugium, skimmer and diy phosban reactor and my sps is doing great as long as I do a 10% water change once a week.

ac50 hang on with just 1 powerhead! That's what I'm talking bout
I'm surprised more people didn't chime in with similar results. How many gallons is your tank?
