whats the minimum light requirment for a 65 gallon tank to keep zoanthids the tank is 18" deep. Looking to upgrade to T-5's no Metal Halides. Right now we have normal output T-5's(2 bulbs 10k and atinic)

there is no minimun requirement. there is chart on the web but most of them dont seem to agree. if you looking to house zoa's in your tank then lights are important. zoa love intense lighting t5, mh or a mix. for t5 i would look at current nova on the low end and some like tek or Aquactinic. 4 to 6 bulb fixture would be more they enough. personal i run 2x 175mh and 2x t5 and love them.

Hey there. I have a 6x39w t5 fixture over my 65 and i have a heavy sps/zoa tank going. My tank is 24" deep and i have loripes and valida colonies on the bottom with no problem. The lighting is working out perfect for me. Palys/zoas would do great with that amount of light.
Good Luck.

Your at the minimum right now. Years ago us old timers used to keep zoas under NO flourescents, using Home Depot 'shop light' fixtures. You just have to keep stuff high up.

All you really need to do to upgrade is double your bulbs by adding one of the many two or four bulb fixtures that are avilable.

Here is one from a sponsor;

There are many different options. There whole thing about lighting is that the ‘minimum’ only LIMITS what you can keep, it does not PREVENT you from keeping corals. Many of us go ‘whole hog’ in lighting not because we need so much, but because by doing so we never have to worry about lighting again. We know we have enough.

I keep frags in a 12 inch tank (on the bottom) under a single compact flourescent bulb like this one;

It’s plenty enough for stuff to grow.
