Minimum MP40w flow?

There are two different numbers listed on your website.

Under the Flow subtitle:
1000-3000gph

Under Specification section:
500-3000gph.

which one is true?

The reason I ask is because I think I am right in between models for my tank, which is a 30 long, sps dominant tank.. (currently mostly frags)... And if the 40w can go down to 500gph just like the 20 can, it makes sense for me to get the 40w, and have more potential for making waves.... But if the min flow of the 40w is 1000, then what?

What would you recommend?

1000gph for the mp40w and 500gph for mp20.

I know I asked ;)

Not sure if your 30 gallon is a breeder, long or high, but I have an mp40 on my 40 breeder (36x18x16) and it works fine. I can see the polyps on the corals sway with the current.

its not a breeder, its a long, 36longx12x18high.

im just worried that the mp40 will need to be at almost minimum as to not make a sand storm, negating the effect of the special modes...

however, i am also worried that the mp20 might not have the higher end that i might need to make a wave should i want it...

what mode do you have yours on? also, if it is making a wave, seeing as though our tanks are the same length, is the period of the wave long enough as to not just shake things back and forth quickly, but rather make them rock back and forth gently? does that make sense?

thanks in advance for your help!

I currently have it on reefcrest mode. As for the wave making capabilities, you can control the frequency, so you can have the wave either coming one after another or have one way go and wait a few seconds then another wave goes.

Either way you get a gently rocking.

BTW I choose to run it in reefcrest mode because it kind of simulates the wave but won't stress the tank out.

Edit: I only have my set at 1/3 of the setting.

wow... nice! sounds like you have lots up room to move up in flow if you want!

do you have sps in your tank??

Ryan-

To guarentee you can make a wave I would recommend the MP40w although an MP20 should provide more than enough flow for that size tank. I am just not sure if it can make a wave on a tank that long because we haven't tested it yet. You can always upgrade to an MP40w, you only end up spending $30 more.

thanks for the reply!

trd47, could you make a wave if you wanted to???

Done it! When I first installed it I wanted to test the wave making capabilities and got an inch easy.

Great! I think im sold on the mp20!

Ill post my review once its all set up!

Thanks for all the help!

If the lowest is 1000 then is 1/2 speed 2000 or how is it done, right now i have 2 mp40 in my regular 55 gal. all sps tank and im not really sure what speed to keep it at. Most corals are frags so i really dont think i need full full speed yet, but not sure where to keep it to make them all happy.
