You don't want just 3... Fights and death!! The "Bloods" vs. the "Crips", ya know!??! You would need to get 1 male per 3 or 4 females. Unless of course you just get one. 3 won't school. I had 1 male and 4 females in my 180g and they did fine.

You have the responsibility of how many fish in your tank....not your fish. You can put a tang in a 10g and of course it will fit. Or a Grouper in a 20L..... Get the picture here??

I offered up the information stating what I read for PROPER care of Anthias. That was the question, correct??

Read this link...

Liveaquaria: "The Lyretail Anthias does best when kept in a group and housed in a species-specific aquarium of at least 125 gallons in size. Male Lyretail Anthias are best kept alone or with several females. Though the Lyretail Anthias generally occupy the middle of the aquarium, it appreciates the availability of several hiding places."

ALSO.... Keep diet in mind too, make sure you are prepared to feed them what they need, not what they can survive on...

Also from Liveaquaria: "The diet is consistent with other members of the Anthias group - zooplankton and floating filamentous algae. In the aquarium, the Lyretail Anthias should be fed a varied diet of mysis shrimp, vitamin-enriched brine shrimp, frozen preparations and other meaty items for zooplankton feeders. The Lyretail Anthias prefers to be fed small quantities, several times daily."

Feeding several times daily may require a good source for nutrient export. Such as skimming or frequent water changes....

you can quote LA all you want . All I said was that I was having no issues with MY 3 lyretails in my 135 . If thats a problem maybe I should run out and buy another before all that "fights and death" start to happen ! and how do they get those little red or blue banderras to stay on their heads?....get a grip!

I'm just answering the question without the lip or ripping on my fellow aquarists. I also provided external sources, not just what I do.

We've got two in a 65 (one male, one female). They are doing great. But apparently I need to go tell the male he needs to start beating up the female since she's the only one..

Seriously Aj flip, a pair would be fine in your 75. I would personally do two medium/small sized females, letting them sort out if one wants to be male or not. :)

Is this the quote that is ripping? if so it was not intended that way. it just facts .That is what we are looking for on these threads.
fact 1 my fish can't count
,fact 2 I have 1 male and 2 females in my 135 gallon tank.
fact 3 they have been in that tank with no issues for over a year.

I don't understand how not having 3 females is like putting a tang in a ten gallon tank however (that sounds kinda Ripping). If I add more fish isn't that like over stocking a the tank? again I'm not ripping ,I just don't understand .
The original post asks if they can put 3 lyretails in his tank,I am no expert on his size tank so that is why included my tank size
Here is a quick pic I just took of my 2 Girls(they seem happy)

Have a great Day ! ray

I probably got reported to every Moderator and Admin as well, huh?

Seriously, it was a joke.

All jokes aside, the notion that males will not tolerate low numbers of females makes little sense.

Before we introduced the male, we had two females. Unfortunately one passed due to a non-visible internal infection, but even then, they did not fight.
