miracle mud or sand in refugium

Which is better and why?

i started with miracle mud in my refugium...i think alot of people run them without any kinda of substrate though...

Mud is reported to have the additional benefit of trace element support as well as denitrification.

I ran miracle mud for 3 months before coverting to live sand in my refugium. I reworked my refugium this past week, this is when I converted over to live sand. I think if I remember correctly you will have to replace you miracle mud after some time, where live sand you shouldn't have to replace.

started with miracle mud. I can't say if it was any better then the live sand but I did have no nitrates!!! it is just so exspensive and you have to replace 1/2 every 6 months

Neither. A bare bottom with a little live rock rubble works great for me.

Both work fine. The sand is cheaper, though. Any trace elements are replaced with your water changes.
