A friend of mine wants me to put together a Reef tank for him with everything Need to start out, and prices.

Here is what I got for Items so far, am I missing anything.

  • [*] Reef Ready Tank
    [*] Bulk heads
    [*] Sump
    [*] Stand
    [*] Canopy
    [*] Lights
    [*] Heater
    [*] Auto Top Off
[*] Return Pump (need the name of a good brand Internal)
    [*] 4 MaxiJets (2 Mod's, 1 for top off, 1 just in case)
    [*] MagFloat Algae magnet
    [*] Skimmer
    [*] Sand
    [*] Rock
    [*] RO/DI Unit
    [*] Salt

His plans are for Softies and some LPS for now.

I forgot about the refractometer, and he can use my test kit till he start testing for the chem's.

Money... Yeah that should be on top the list.

PVC Parts hmmm thought about it, but were do you start? It always cost me so much more then what I thought. The good thing the sump will be under the stand so that should not be as bad as mine.

keep them coming..

water changing stuff like a bin, powerhead, extra heater, salt

I am pleased with my mag for internal return pump

some say they get hot, but thats not causing a problem for me and I have a pretty big pump (mag12) in a pretty small tank 37g and im not having heat problems at all...I even have a heater in there

Tank size right now is up in the air.. he wants a 4' tank so I'm trying to price out a 75, 90, and 120. Not much really difference in the 75 and 120. Tank cost and extra rock that is it really.

All I know is when people are selling there whole setup for 1100+ it may seem like a lot till you start figuring every little thing. that 1100 starts to sound really cheap..

Yeah for the price it wouldn't be worth getting the 75 when it was all said and done right now I'm only showing 100 difference. I like the 120 because you have more room under the stand for sump and top off.

eheim 1260 or 1262

I prefer Oceanrunner's over Eheim's for return pumps...they are silent, efficient and less $$$ than Eheim. I have had several Eheim pumps go bad on me too and never had any problems with the OR's.
