Missing Fish

I'm on vacation and my husband is watching my tank. I hadn't seen my pink bar goby for a couple days before I left - he's got a randalls pistol shrimp.

Husband hasn't seen him but he doesn't sit by the tank much but I said to watch for it when he feeds them. (pink bar).

Silly question - what if the shrimp died? Could the goby be in the hole and not be able to get out? He's at least 3" long. he was new but I'd see him, especially at feeding time.

I was just laying in bed last night thinking about it and that thought came to mind. I'm guessing the goby could still get out but wanted to see what others thought.

So he hasn't seen the shrimp or fish?
Anything is possible..
Could be on the floor behind the tank too or many other possibilities..

The goby would be able to get out. Ask your husband to sit by the tank for a little while or look from underneath. Sometimes you can see the goby through the bottom glass if his hole is dug deep enough.

I have it on a stand where you can't see. One day I thought I heard noise when I was changing water almost like a fish jumped out - but I looked everywhere and couldn't find any.

My main question was if the shrimp happened to die, would the goby be able to get out? If were home, I'd be listening for the shrimp but my husband works and he's just not attentive to the tank like I am. He'd never be like all of the men here!

Hard to answer because we know NOTHING about its hole, its size or anything..
But its likely that it would be able to push the rotting carcass out of the way and escape to freedom..
Thats not a concern I would EVER have..

ok, it was just a thought so I thought I'd ask. It's probably quite unlikely.

yep! but the tank is covered. If it did jump out, the cats might have gotten it. I had one get out before, if this one's gone, no more. They obviously jump out from pretty small areas if that's the case but I looked everywhere that day I heard what sounded like it could have been a jumper.

Have you checked your sump, socks (if u havem) and overflow box?
