Working on a stock list for a JBJ28 for my office for my first salt tank:bounce3: and have narrowed it down to a few choices. I would like to know from experienced nano owners what would be the best/hardiest combination? Tank will have a few corals, CUC, Tuxedo Urchin and a Coral Banded Shrimp. I am thinking 5 fish max.

  • Flame Angel
  • Six Line Wrasse
  • Ocellaris Clownfish
  • Flame Hawkfish
  • Royal Gramma Basslet
  • Firefish
  • Green Chromis
  • Gumdrop Coral Croucher
  • Yellow Prawn Goby

Any other ideas are greatly appreciated too!

K first off the flame angel isn't a good choice for a 28g although beautiful it is very territorial and isn't reef safe! And I would switch out the coral banded shrimp for a skunk Cleaner! But for the rest sounds like a nice setup! Gool luck! Happy reefing!

+1 to above, dwarf angels can be little punks for the most part!! Though, I will always have one in my nano, because even though they go through fits of coral/clam nipping and are super aggressive, I love the way they look and really think they add a lot of character to the tank.

The CBS is definitely best replaced by a skunk. CBS is very aggressive and will try to eat fish, bite you, and all kinds of other shennanigans. Skunk cleaner is an awesome looking and friendly shrimp that will actually help your shrimp by cleaning them.

Other than that, watch your aggressive vs. peaceful combinations. My coral beauty, dottyback, and flame hawk have all bullied my royal gramma and other more peaceful fish I've had. The dragonet somehow seems to get along with everybody, and the clowns get along with everybody also.
