Mixing clowns?

Hey,

Just a quick question for you guys. I am by far no clown expert, so this is why I am asking.

Could I put a non-hosting Ocelaris Clown with a Hosting True Percula Clown in a 30-40g tank? The TP is hosting in a RBTA.

The reson I am asking is that I am going to be combining my 20g long with my 15g into a 30-40g breeder tank....and I would hate to have to sell either of the clowns. They both have very sentimental value to me.

Thanks,

CJ

It's worth a try. One thing to consider is the maturity of the 2 clowns. Hosting a sea anemone is not necessary for sxual maturation. If both have matured into females you will almost certainly not be successful. It might be smart to place the non-hosting clown into a breeder container near the hosting clown- those used for livebearers, for a week or so to let them get used to one another before throwing them together. With any luck. one or the other will still be a male or subadult, and all will go well. It is also possible that they may set up separate territories and coexist, although not form a pair. Only way to find out is to try. good luck

you should be fine, keep eye on them for a few days after but a osc /perc has the highest probability of mixing together.

you can also try floating the one clown in a bag and see if the other one shows signs of aggression towards it.

good luck.

Great to hear this...thanks guys.

The O clown is probably 4-5 years old....atleast that is how long it has been in my family. I am unsure of the TP clown.....probably around 1 year or so.

It would be great if they would form a pair...but I would be happy to just have them in the same tank.
