mixing wrasse??

I have a melanurus wrasse in my 90 gallon and would like to add another wrasse. What would be a better tankmate a mystery or solar wrasse??

I have mystery, melanarus, and canary wrasse with no problems in my 75. Id like to add one more wrasse.

In my experience, the melanarus can be a bit of a bully. A fellow reefer and I both tried to add h.crysus (canary wrasse) with h.melanarus and in both cases the melanarus injured the crysus to the point where it perished.

I believe it had something to do with the fact that they are the same genus which I now try to avoid. You are lucky to have both of these beauties co-existing :) How did you add them? At the same time? Were either of them phased males at the time? I'd love to have a tank with both at some point!

To the OP, either (or both) wrasses you mentioned should be fine based on my research, but I would use caution when introducing and be prepared to remove one or both if things go south.

Your safest bet is the Solar wrasse; the mystery, being a Pseudocheilinus wrasse, might well be an issue.

If you stick with Cirrhilabrus or Paracheilinus wrasses to go along with the melanurus, you shouldn't have any problems.

Thanks I had a flasher and they were doing great together until he decided to jump out of the tank. Now I just wanted something a little different. I think I will get the solar wrasse.

I also have a mystery and melanarus wrasse together with no problems. Mine are in a 40b with tons of rock. Not ideal but I took down my 120 and all has worked out so far.

If your tank is uncovered, or offers any gaps at the top, you're wasting your time/money (and fish lives) adding any wrasses.

ALL wrasses are jumpers, and require a 1/4" mesh top.

At the time i just transfer from my 72 gallon to my now 90 oceanic tech and i was waiting on my brs screen to arrive, there would be no more jumper from now on!
