MJ mod workshop?

I don't know where to get the test cap. HD around my area is pretty dump (the people who work there). Some of them don't even speak English. I looked and asked but the dude didn't know anything. I asked him for some stuff and you know what he said. "It's over there. It's hiding." .. I order the pipe already. Cost $12 for 10' shipped. Save me the trip to the store. :)

at least he didn't run away from you, I get that reaction at HD  It sucks when you ask for something by name, and they say "huh?", even though it's something they sell!

I am getting anxious to make this power head. I might order parts and do one now and one at the meeting.

Test caps are with the ABS drain fittings. They're for pressure testing drain plumbing. I picked up 4 yesterday.

No sched 80 pipe at my HD. Stuff in the electrical section was gray sch 40. So I went with test caps and black ABS. Pipe was something like $2 for 24" length. Caps were less than $1, I think. It was so cheap, I didn't even pay much attention, hahah.

I'll make up a few shrouds. Going to do the outboard spindle mount with some 1/4" acrylic mounted on edge. Not going to bother with a centering cap. I'll chuck the shroud into a lathe and drill the .098 spindle hole dead center after I assemble the ABS to the acrylic.

Trust me... You're gonna want a centering cap or a center cross brace of some sort. If you don't use anything, the magnet will just fly out of the end.

D.

I ordered 10' pipe. I think that's enough to make a FEW shrouds. I can make some for the meeting. This will only work with the small prop. 1.75" won't fit.

Mr. ugly, take some pic when you do it. Need to get some more idea for the centering cap thing. :)

Right. By "outboard spindle mount", I mean a cross brace like the one you used on your mods before. I'll slot the end of the shroud to fit the acrylic piece on edge so as to minimize obstruction to flow. After the brace is glued in place, I'll drill the spindle hole.

Ok, here's a list of those that want to be in the workshop. Please post if you need to be added or removed from the list.

I tried to list the stuff that people said they wanted. Post your corrections, changes, etc.

Looks like 9 mj900's and 6 mj1200 so far.

I think I might try to make one of the MJ1200's between now and September, if they work as advertised I'll definately be up for another. I could also be a helper since I'll offically be a "pro" ;)

Put me down for (2) 900 and a 1200. I have most of the parts already, just need the pumps and if you get the end caps, that would be nice.

Mr. Ugly:
If you are going to make the end cap yourself, drill the hole for the spindle before you glue the end cap on. Then you can turn the pump on and move the end cap around to get it exactly center. If you don't, it will rattle. Mark the proper place to glue it with a pen, then glue it on.

I don't think I will need the 1200. Just 2x900. Are we going to order some prop too? I have couple 1.75" props. I'm not sure if the 900 able to turn that prop.

Man.... You guys have me itching to break out my tools and start tinkering again. If it wasn't for the fact I'm getting ready to move

I might be able to convince my buddy with a nice CNC mill to mill out some parts for this part :D I'll see, and if so, I'll post the cost, which would be for plastic only :)
