Yeah, I was thinking about posting a in-depth DIY. If your going after a lot of flow, this beats the maxi mod by far. I have actually built 5 versions of the maxi mods. They can put out decent flow if you build them corretly. However, if your looking for a pump to put out a wide flow in the 3000+ GPH range, than the aquaclear mod is the way to go. Plus, its easier to build.

The one he made looks good. I will have to find an aqua clear to destroy now. Wish I had saw that before I went to Sea of Marvels Saturday. I would have bought a couple there.

Hey, maybe that would be a great addition to the GIRS website. A DIY section of stuff our club members have done. It could include pictures, material list etc of finished products.

I will head down there to see what he has for the aqua clear powerheads. I will get a few if he has any.

You can always use the maxijets for something else. They are good utility pumps.

Thanks Bob. I like the looks of the aquaclear setup, very clean. It looks like less work as well, which of course is always a bonus.

The real question Ball is have you worked out a stop for it yet?

Why yes. Yes I have.

Ball I assume that is the biggest aquaclear.

No. Its the 802 or new model name 70. There is one bigger pump than the 802. Its way to big to be used like a Tunze style pump.

Hey, if anyone needs one of these 802s, I've got one laying around that isn't being used.

Send me a message!

Feel free to browse all the props :)

If anyone orders any let me know I'll buy a few off ya and pitch in for shipping.

Don't ya wish we could buy bronze, steel and put them in our tanks :)

I think the R/C market is gonna get flooded with reefers :P

Here's a good link to someone who posted all the links to props and stuff.

If you where going to try to avoid triming the next prop what prop would you suggest?

Ball did you have any suggestions from the question by Covey? I am getting ready to order some props and would like to try to start out with at least close to the right prop.

I modded the one 802 the other night and temporarily used a Dumas 1.75, moves a ton of water, buy will not run once the cover is over the prop and impedes flow to the back side of the prop. I can see I need a smaller prop, or at least less pitch, or both.

Also, is your prop able to overcome the magnet that holds the rotating assembly in the powerhead and hit the stop? occasionally when this one starts up it will run backwards and not pull the prop out to where I have installed the prop.

I use the wildcat 1.5" prop.

http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXJ761&P=7

On the 802, it fills a 2.5 gallon bag in about 3 seconds. Thats around 3000 GPH. The 802 will startup this prop everytime. It may take a second or two for it to startup in the correct direction if it initially starts up backwards, but it has always corrected itself after hitting the stop.

I couldnt get the 1.75" dumas to startup on the 802. The 802 doesnt have enough power. I wish it did. I can get it to startup out of water, then put it underwater. But thats not what anyone wants to do in their tanks.

Thanks

I could get it to start the 1.75, but as soon as there was any restriction to the incoming water, such as putting the guard on it, it would reverse. I have a 1.25 prop that it will spin correctly, That may be a good mod for a shortened reducer.

Thanks for the tip, I am ordering some today.

Well Bob I should have the first mod finalized this weekend. I ordered the props today and they are suppose to be in Thursday or Friday. The first prop guard is done as well, so the props are the only things we are waiting on.

What kind of mount are you wanting on yours?

I don't really know what I will need. I did see a magnet mount one time. That would be cool. I will probably just hang it over the edge of the tank if I could. I would hate to have one of these fall on a coral.
