MJ Stream mod?

Is it worth trying the Maxi-Jet mod to turn it into a stream pump? Looks great and fun to build, but is it really?

If you're talking about the standard MaxiJet mod, then yes it is well worth it. Several group members (myself included) have built them in the past year and have them running in our tanks.

The flow increase is tremendous.

My ownly complaint about them is that they take up a lot of space and they aren't super easy to mount in an effective way.

They put out awesome flow, but sometimes they take some tinkering.

Depending on how good of a job you do, they can be noisey. You also shouldn't run them on timers.

Despite all of those flaws, it's well worth it!

Thanks, I think I will try it. Any tips on what store has most of these parts? I am assuming I will have to go to the hobby store to get the props. What about the other stuff. Doesn't sound like lowes or Home depot carry all the rest. The main hard to find part seems to be the SS rod.

Ahhh, that's too easy. Plus they want $25 each for them. Seems like highway robbery when you can get the parts locally. I know sometimes you get what you pay for, but I would rather make three for $25 then just 1.

LOL, unless your time isn't worth anything to you, it's certainly not highway robbery. What you will end up making will probably not be as nice and will take you a lot longer to build.

I'd buy the kit for the cap alone.

OK guys, I will keep thinking it over. I am sure you are right .... but you keep taking away all my fun talking me out of these DIY projects. ;0)

That's because you are wanting to try to do the same stuff we all tried already. I'll agree the kit isn't cheap but when you figure out how long you spent trying to totally DIY it rather that just buying the kit, I am sure you will see why they can charge what they do. The kit makes it super easy and they give you good reliable pump rather than something that requires lots of tinkering and doesn't look as nice.
