Good afternnon all,
I have a 4 foot X 6" counter current M.T.C. air stone driven protien skimmer that I would like to convert to a recirculating NW model. This skimmer will eventually go on a 50 gal SPS tank. I know the skimmer is a little big
, but I have one so might as well use it. I want the skimmer to be gravity fed. The aquarium will be sitting in a closet to be seen on the wall on the other side.
My intention is to run about 100 gal an hour of water through an open loop, meaning Tank -> Skimmer-> refugium -> Tank. The aquarium will have a weir running the length of it to get maximum water surface area through the loop.
My question is the NW pump choices for the skimmer. The only 2 that interest me are the OR 2700 and OR 3700. The 2700 uses 38w and the 3700 68w Not certain if the 2700 can overcome the head pressure if its placed on the bottom of the skimmer maybe 8 in. from the bottom. I know the 3700 should do well , but may cause a lot of excess turbulance or maybe not.
What route do you guys think I should take?
Thanks
