I am writing in regard to the recent editing of a post here in this forum and its subsequent closure. I don't understand. No items were offerred for sale. The proprietor did not post. Our members seek information regarding the hobby from each other, including how and where to obtain corals from reputable sources. Moreover, this particular vendor had been a friend to many in the club, and his status in terms of his livelihood is a personal, not necessarily business, concern of many of our members as well.
The mention of a website is not allowed, when requested by a non-commercial member from others on the forum? Would it be equally disallowed for me to inform others where on line they can ante up their Reefcentral membership dues? It was a link to information, not an offer to sell. You know, the ability of this hobby to remain viable has historically depended on the existence of reliable, reputable and ethical LFS's, who very likely do not have the resources to be sponsors here. Can you explain?
Respectfully,
Boneh

Boneh,
If you read the [ua], I'm pretty sure you'll find the reason that thread was edited, and closed.

Do you mean this part?
As it pertains to the User Agreement, Reef Central defines “commercial post” as knowing and willful posts made by private individuals or businesses, directly or indirectly seeking commerce.
Because I don't think it applies.

If you mean that the poster had "commercial connection to a product or company, or a to a directly competing product or company", then you have a case (I don't know if that is true) but I think that the poster probably wouldn't have a problem complying with that. If it were me, I would make that relationship known in my signature. What do you mean DGen?

I can't discuss one members' account with any other, and I want to be clear that I did not take action in the case I believe you are speaking of, but it's safe to say that there is some history here.
Commercial sigs are not permitted here, unless you are a sponsor of RC.

I'm not pointing fingers. The rules do say that if , "Any member that has any commercial connection to a product or company, or a to a directly competing product or company, is requested to clearly divulge that relationship when posting a comment about that product or company."
I understand the importance of keeping this a non-commercial spammed out forum. I just believe that the present instance is unjustified. Actually, given that I am a dues paying member of RC, I'd like to see the action reviewed by someone at the next level. Even if someone "has a history", I think that each post needs to be judged on its own. This sounds like a grudge to me. Is there due process? I know you can't discuss an individual member's case, but the rest of us deserve to know by what interpretation of the rules we have to live by here. Just my 25 cents.

Since you and I are not going to see eye to eye, and I am unable to share information which may sway you, all I can do is point you to this, from the [ua], regarding commercial posting

"Recognizing that it is impossible to construct a definition which will satisfy every situation or circumstance, Reef Central reserves the right to determine whether or not a post violates the “intent” of the “commercial post” policy or definition. Violation of this policy will be grounds for removal from our community."

Boneh there is no use to carry this on. Youll eventually end up on the bad side of things. Just let it be. Take this from someone who at one point tried to carry on an arguement.
