Mogul base Metal halide system

shortened to SE I use them on my 560/g 4 400/w 20k radiums. IMHO I like DE ( double ended ) for smaller width tanks like 18" because the beam of light is more focused. in 20" plus I like SE's better because I love the spread on reflectors like Lumenarc/lumenmax. DE's need the glass shielding while SE's don't because the bulbs have the shielding on them. DE's start off with more par but after what I belive is close to a 20% reduction from using the glass shielding the SE's usually actual equal or better them. now if your using a glass shield on SE reflectors ( I don't as many don't) then all bets are off. I also belive there are more options with SE bulbs.

Hey Carlos,

I use two 250s over my 90G w/ VHO Actinics.

Generally 15Ks look more toward the blue side while most 20K are just blue. These colors vary with different MFGs.

I use Reflux 10Ks and you can run them without using any VHOs if you like. They have enough actinic spectrum in them to not warrant the ned fort he VHOs but I run them anyways, just for the added effect.

Also generally speaking the lower the K rating the more growth you will see, but the more toward the yellow side the bulb will get. Most 10K have a white/yellow color to them. The reeflux bubls are the first 10Ks I ave seen with no yellow at all in them. These are for SE bulbs though. The DE have more of a yellow tint to them.

What are you going to put these over?

If you want to swing by to see my setup before you initially purchase yours you are more than welcome. It might give you a better idea of what to look for. There are also concerns as far as ballasts go as well. For instance you can over drvie bulbs SE bulbs w/ HQI ballasts which alter color and output. I believe Joe does this on his Radiums SEs.

There are a bunch of different combinations out there so don't rush into buying the first one you see. Trust me it will save you money in the long run.
