i have a sponge in my tank that looks similiar its grey and makes like mounds
but it has never hurt any of my corals

Would a sponge triple in size over a 24hr period?

I haven't dealt with this particular species, but some sponges can grow very quickly under the right conditions. Test your RO and tank water for silicates- if the RO tests higher, this could be the answer.

wow that is fast take over I would dip and toothbrush off as much as possible hope the coral makes it at least frag what what you can as an end game scenario good luck hope it is confined and not spreading..

give it a dip in coral rx
let it set for 20-30 mins
aggitate with toothbrush
rinse in ro/di water
mix up another batch of coral rx and redip for 15-20 mins
should clear up I ahd something similar but I could not find any info in my books, and nothing from anyone I know.
at the worst you can always frag the pieces that don';t have this growth on them just don't cut to close to the growth you don't want to introduce any of that to your new frags. also do not handle growth and them finger healthy tissue this could lead to futher issues.

I've had this. Nearly took out an entire 7 yr old Monti sunset. I kept it at bay with daiy Lugol's dips. In the end I had to chisel off the areas that had it as there was no stopping it!
