Moldy NLS Thera A Pellets

Kinda wondering if I am the only one who has had this issue with NLS pellets?

I bought a 150g container of 1mm Thera A+ pellets, and found a moldy cluster of pellets in the middle of the container! I'd attribute it to the store, improperly storing it. However, this is NOT the first time I have had this EXACT issue.

They always say lightning never strikes the same place twice... But moldy NLS sure does!

They are supposed to be sealed when manufactured so storing shouldn't be an issue. Looks like they have a quality control problem. Either the manufacturing is incorrect and allowing moisture in it before the container is sealed or the seal isn't made properly, or both. Either way I would contact NLS directly and give them the lot # on the container.

Had the exact same issue with 300g of Thera a. I took them out washed them and froze them. Never thought of calling Them. I should have though

Oh wow, that's definitely not good. I've never seen that before and I buy new Thera A+ containers (600g) every few months so I've gone through many. I'd follow the advice above.

Don't blame the store; any product like this should be packaged to handle the humidity, etc., of a lfs. Any good mfg will replace stuff like this if contacted.
I have a very large list of mfgs and distributors and call them often. Most customer service and technical reps are great and are a very under-used source of info & help. (IMO & IME)

Big time manufacturing issue with moisture in the container or on the pellets pre-sealing. Send them your picture and you should get an immediate refund or exchange w/free shipping. If not, switch products and politely let the company know you will be posting your experience on RC.

Interesting. I'm quite guilty of sticking wet fingers in my NLS pellets, and this never happens. I'd say it could be a contamination issue, that may not even require moisture. I'm sure the company would appreciate the heads up. Though, they frankly were kind of rude to me when I complained about consistency issues.

Oh, I'll definitely contact NLS, that's not an issue. I expect them to do the right thing. I'll have to dig up the picture of the first batch that had this same exact issue.

Just wanted to make sure everyone checks their pellets, NLS or other, and to see if anyone else had this issue and it seems there are other instances, as Chris had this issue, also with Thera A.

Just wanted to give this a bump. After posted this thread, I emailed New Life directly and received an email back the next business day, at 5am, a few hours before they are even supposed to open.

Anyhow, I did not give them the benefit of telling them that I would be reporting the results on Reef Central. I feel that no company should be given any forewarning, as they're likely to respond very differently.

They offered to replace the container for free. Well, I got the package on Monday, and to my surprise I received two containers.

 to New Life
