Dead and covered in zoanthids now, but can anyone tell me what this was when it was alive?

itll be real tough without the shell being visible.

The 'throat' goes down a couple inches and is a VERY securely jointed shell, and from the shape of the shell I dont think it could close all the way. The center would be open for sure. The 4th pic down is the definite shape of the shell. Thought that would give a clue.

we would need to see the byssal opening of the shell, or scutes, or more to tell.
